Scottish Society of the Louisiana Highlands

Back story

Founded in 1996, the original organization included members from all over the northern region of Louisiana from Shreveport to Monroe. Out of the main group, two separate entities were later formed and the Shreveport group renamed itself the Scottish Society of the Louisiana Highlands, and has remained thus since that time. Our mission is to help educate the people of Louisiana about the rich Scottish heritage and culture from which many of us in this region can trace our roots while showcasing the music, dance and crafts of our home across the water at our annual events, the Robert Burns Supper and the Scottish Tartan Festival.

What We Do

The Scottish Society meets every second Saturday of each month. Our major events include a Burns Supper held each January, the Scottish Tartan Festival held in April, and our Annual Whisky Tasting taking place in November. These are some of the ways in which we endeavor to help others learn about Scottish culture.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Saturday, October 12, the Scottish Society will be on the LSU-S campus participating in the annual Pioneer Heritage Day beginning at 10:00 AM. There will be many educational demonstrations to see and in which to participate!

Friday, October 25 at 6:00PM, the Society will have a Scots, Spirits and Kilted Night Out at BeauxJax Crafthouse, 501 Barksdale Blvd. in Bossier City. Stop in and have a pint with us!

Whisky Tasting

The Annual Whisky Tasting varies as to what time of year it is held. Sip on a variety of whiskies that are paired with a multiple course meal, all while getting educated on why these pairings work well with each other. The date for the next whisky tasting is TBD.
